Bifold doors in the office before update |
The client wished to keep the
larger pieces of furniture in this den/office combo but
recognized that there was much room for improvement. We
started with the fireplace. Brass framing was replaced with
more-masculine matte black, while the brass sconces were
retired in favor of a custom glass variety based on the
room’s palette. The photo above the hearth was re-framed.
Chairs bearing patchwork fabric and upward-curving backs
were reshaped and reupholstered in soft velour, adding coziness,
per the client’s specification, to the manly, contemporary
character of the space. |
The office space was set apart by new paint, and the floor
was refinished to remove an unsightly spot. The desk chair
was replaced with a fully adjustable Aeron. A runner cleans
up the furniture along the wall and adds color and texture.
The director’s chair was swapped for a vintage Aalto
model. This, along with the new magazine rack, keeps the
area looking stylish and works with the existing drop-leaf
table, retained per client’s request.
Lastly, rust-colored wooden blinds were substituted for
the white window treatments, bringing welcome warmth to
the entire den/office space.
