Initially, this room was given a simple facelift with a
new coat of paint. This was a big step for the client, who’d
lived with white walls all her life. She was thrilled with
the result, but we both agreed that, as anticipated, the
pink chair and artwork no longer worked together in the
space. The client was very attached to keeping the painting
there, so we removed the pink chair (which found new life
upstairs: see room #3) and
added a small antique rocker, while incorporating more red
into the room. The contemporary orientation of the artwork
is balanced by the striped fabric of the ottoman (previously
headed for the trash). Now, rather than asserting itself
at the expense of the other key elements in the room, the
painting actually works to tie everything together. Charming
throw pillows made of velvet roses provide the finishing
touch. |
